The Weekend

Last weekend we decided to get away. Sometimes you just need to do that and take break from your busy life. If it were not for my husband's job which allows us to stay at this resort free of charge, we would not be able to afford it. We are very grateful for it.

Swimming was THE highlight for our children. They had a choice of the pool or the beach. When the pool was empty, they preferred it, but when it was busy then it was the beach. Both were fun.

This little guy was quite contented on land. For some reason the water intimidated him this time, so we tried to go easy on him. Once when the others were swimming I took him for a walk.
We weren't lucky enough to see any.

The yard is well kept and looks very inviting. They also had a herb and vegetable garden I enjoyed visiting.

For one dinner we went to this cafe. I insist it is the best place to eat in Belize, and is called Chef Rob's Gourmet Cafe. We ordered 4 course meals. I had lobster soup, while Daniel had coconut curry soup. We both had pineapple salads. I had red snapper with grapefruit salsa, and Daniel had steak. We both had roasted banana with ice cream for dessert. It was delicious just like the last time we ate there. They do not serve local foods, but wonderful seafood and steaks.  There are several restaurants in town where you can get plenty of local dishes. Since eating here I have taken an interest in gourmet cooking...
While there we were graced with this band playing us some garifuna music. The small town of Hopkins is rich in garifuna history, and for the first time in life I took a look into their history. It is certainly an interesting story, starting with a few slaveship wrecks...
I took a sound clip of the music but blogger won't let me upload it so I am unable to share it.

  2. Yes, we are living in a land where fish are plentiful and just a few days ago some peddler came to our house to sell red snapper and I bought 7 lbs. This pregnancy has me craving fish! I baked some with lemon, fresh ground salt and pepper, cilantro and butter, and was it ever good.

  3. Sounds wonderful. What was the resort?

So sorry that I missed getting to see you yesterday. I was already ready for bed. I do really want to meet you in RL.

I am wanting to getaway too. This looks like a wonderful place.

  4. SJ, the resort is in Hopkins close to Stann Creek, a two hour drive from here. It is Hamanasi. I will call you before I come around next time, or you can stop by here...
