Flowers for Mommy

I do love the flowers the children bring me. Here in Belize we do not have a huge selection, but every little one counts. Jessica brought me a bunch the other day. Not wanting to be outdone, Timothy brought me some as well.

Not just the flowers, but stem, roots and all!!! Thank you sonny! You are priceless, and so are your flowers...even if they come from my flowerbed.

Two of my 'real' flowers.

The reunion

To say I have been busy late last year would be an understatement. Till mid December I was preparing for the big reunion of my husband's family. One day was spent on this farm, (where they grew up) so we have been preparing for it for a long time. Then after the gathering I expected life would return to normal. Only to find out we had to fight the worst flu we have ever had in the house for several weeks. Thankfully we are better and life is normal again.
Here are a few photos of that grand time we had together.

A great craft where people got to paint a tile. This will go up in Grandparents' new home and will be a wonderful project to enjoy for a long time to come yet.

 Three best friends and cousins.

A little lady that got totally exhausted during photo shooting time!

Here she is a little brighter, home on our farm again.

We ordered a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It was a wonderful meal. (I learned that poinsettias don't like to be picked and put in a vase.)

The best thing on the farm was the hay ride to the river. The family farm is close to the river, and the family often went swimming.

We had all sorts of fun!

After the farm day came beach day. This little girlie had lots of fun discovering sand.

Thank you to all family for making it special and fun!

Old Quilts update

Remember the old quilts a while back? I have come to give you that promised update. I visited my aunt before the baby came, and found out some neat facts about my buy.

She remembered the quilts, but not too well. She did say they were made of feed sacks. (Actually I now believe only the oldest one, the white one, was from feedsacks) She said when a new shipment of feed had come in, the women had all been eager to go shopping for feed! It had been exciting to be one of the first to be able to pick out the prettiest sacks possible.

She must have found some real nice sacks.

This was the one I did not know what it was used for. I found out quickly that it used to be a sewing machine cover, so I spread it over mine for the photo.

I treasure these old pieces for now, and look at them now and then. My daughter and I are planning a tea party soon, and hope to use one of the quilts as part of the setup.

Have a good one!

New Year Celebration

This year for New Year's I felt like making an open house, so that's exactly what we did. We invited some friends and then some extra people came too, and we all had a great time.

It being 'winter', I needed to whiten things up a little. Decorated with white tealights in salt, and pine cones painted white to make them look frosted. And some plain brown sticks which really add to making it look wintery.

For us New Year's is not complete without these. New Year's cookies. Or New Year's fritters, because they are deep-fried. According to Mennonite Girls can cook, these are portzelkys, and according to Cnn's recent article on New Year's foods around the world, they are called oliebollen, from the Netherlands. Whatever they are called, they taste wonderful! A lightly sweet batter with raisins, deep fried and then rolled in powdered sugar. Now there's something that looks wintery! We served these with coffee. After eating as much as everyone wanted, we had some foods other people had brought together.

As much as I felt like making a wintery scene in the kitchen, outside it still looks like this!!!

Grass is all green, girls and women alike having fun outside on an old blanket on the ground, or standing and visiting...watching the children play.

We had some singing in the end, a perfect way to end the celebration.

I hope you enjoyed out our little New Year's celebration!
