Girls' Rainy Day Tea Party

Last week I decided it was time for another tea party. In Belize the hot dry summer days are over for now, and the rainy humid season has started. During the hot months one does not feel like drinking hot tea, only lots of sweet iced tea.

But, when it is dark and rainy outside, what's better than to light some candles, decorate a table and brew some tea. Invite some friends first, and here's what we will serve:

 Homemade cookies dipped in chocolate.

Some Brookside chocolate covered fruit candy. The best!

 Happy cow cheese.

...and some chips brought by one of the friends completes the perfect tea snack.

For the centerpiece we used my cut glass bottle.

Some of our latest teacups that we used:

Dilmah teas...apple cinnamon and blueberry vanilla.

The three happy friends at the party. They loved it!

It is especially rewarding for me to host a party like this and then to hear the remark, "I have never done this before." And then to see the smile on their faces and the sparkle in their eyes, knowing that one of their girlish dreams have probably just come true, is a very fulfilling and rewarding feeling.

Tea Time Again

Dilmah tea! I always like to see what new varieties they have available.
This time I picked apple cinnamon and vanilla.

It is quite attractive in my now favorite teacup.
I am tickled pink by the cute tea tags!

I found two sets of this dark rosed teacup at a yard sale a while ago.

All it takes to make a beautiful vase for decoration is
-- a cod liver oil bottle!

I had finally gotten to baking cinnamon rolls which I had been
hungry for a while after baby already. Was awesome!

Even though my daughter and I try to sneak in a little tea time for ourselves,
when those rowdy boys come along and want a cup, we don't refuse them!
I think it is cute when boys want tea with the ladies.
I know they will outgrow it soon enough.

Tea party with my daughter

Now for the tea party details I promised you... The chalkboard is an old one that I recently painted white. It used to be just plain wood.
One reason I wanted the tea party at this time was because the tree the table was under, was blooming beautiful purple flowers. Which is why we chose a purple theme for the party.

Jessica baked these mini cupcakes a day before. I try to stay away from artificial food coloring. So we iced them with icing made with juice extracted from huckleberries. We couldn't have gotten a prettier coloring anyway!
Wonderful black tea spiced with blueberry and vanilla that I bought just for the ocassion. I must say, I love Dilmah teas! They come with different flavors like lemon and strawberry etc...

Some flower scented purple incense cones.
The lantern is one I recently painted white. Can you tell I am starting to like white things? I have some more items that need painting white, but for now I am happy doing other 'stuff' that is fun. (Think old wooden egg crates)
Can you guess where I got the idea for a white lantern? Why, Aunt Ruthie's, of course! I saw one on her blog, and liked the idea so much, now I have this one inside my home as decoration. People all love it! Even my husband, who was very skeptical when I said that I would paint a red lantern white! Don't you just love when that happens!?

My daughter loves the Little House books, and never tires of reading them over and over. That is fine with me! I couldn't think of better books for her to enjoy...I used this one because it matched with the color theme, AND because I really believe these are the happy golden years...

Isn't it amazing how the colors match?

What was very cute was the way the boys came around to grab their cupcakes. Joseph is holding a stick  in his hand, while behind Timothy is the stick horse and straw hat he has thrown down to take a bite. I love my boys and their boyish ways!
...and my girl for her girlish ways...

This white dress was given to her by her auntie Delia who wouldn't just give it to anyone because it was so special to her. Thank you sister!
The hat--under $2 US at the local store...
I deeply treasure these special moments with my one and only daughter (so far). I am so thankful the Lord saw fit to bless me with her!

Tea Party with my princess!

Jessica loves tea parties. So she asked me a few times lately when can we have a tea party?. I knew I had to make time for her, especially since she is the only girl in the family, and boys somehow just don't make quite the best companions for tea parties. So, into the attic we went, digging through our boxes of stuff, ans sure enough, we found everything we needed for a fine little party.

Much to my shame, I realized some of the dishes I had had for over 10 years, but never used them what they were made for! Well, no better time than right now to make good use of them. When we were eating and enjoying our little party, we talked about it and she remarked, But we don't have lots of time to have tea parties, right?

I felt like I had been hit on the head! Here my girlie thought Mommy was too busy to have tea parties with her! What a shame! I told her no, I am not too busy, and that I will make more time to do this kind of thing with her.

It was the best thing to do on a rainy day! And am looking forward to doing this again soon....
